Punjab Makes Face Masks Mandatory in Smog Affected District For 1 Week: The interim government of Punjab has ordered all residents living in smog-affected districts to wear face masks for a week in order to combat the deteriorating air quality and smog situation in the region. Punjab’s healthcare department issued a notification highlighting the high Air Quality Index (AQI) due to smog, which presents an urgent and serious risk to public health for people of all ages. In order to prevent and control airborne diseases in the province, the government urged residents to take precautionary measures.
With the chief minister’s approval, Ali Jan Khan, the secretary of the Primary & Secondary Healthcare Department, declared that face masks are mandatory for all citizens to wear when engaging in outdoor activities. For the next week, from November 20 to November 26, 2023, this directive will be implemented in the Lahore Division (District Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur) and Gujranwala Division (District Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahuddin), where the AQI is highest.
The government announced plans to create artificial rain in the provincial capital later this month as a preventative measure. The formation of a team and working group to investigate the possibility of using aircraft to create artificial rain was suggest by Provincial Environment Minister Bilal Afzal.

The government was also order by the court to establish a policy allowing workers to work from home two days a week.
