Shoaib Akhtar, a legendary former Pakistani cricketer, and current Pakistani cricket commentator played in all game formats during his 14-year career. He is regard as one of the quickest bowlers in cricket history, having bowled with a pace of 161.3 km/h in a match against England during Cricket World Cup 23. As a nod to his fast bowling and hometown, Akhtar was given the nicknames \”Tiger\” and \”Rawalpindi Express.\” He is also the first bowler to break the 100 mph mark, having done it twice during his career.

Shoaib Akhtar made his first test appearance as a fast bowler in November 1997, and three months later, he played his first one-day international. Despite his acclaim for significantly influencing knockouts in Pakistan\’s favour, he has been involved in various issues throughout his career and is regularly suspected of unethical behaviour. Shoaib was sent home during a Test match series in Australia in 2005 because of his alleged poor attitude. After testing positive for the performance-enhancing substance nandrolone a year later, he was embroile in a drug embarrassment. The ban imposed on him, however, was overturne on appeal.

In 2007, he was banned for the second time. Shoaib Akhtar was disqualified for more than five years on April 1, 2008, for openly criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board. In 2008, the Lahore High Court in Pakistan adjourn the 5-year ban, and Shoaib Akhtar was nominated for the T20 Quadrangular Tournament in Canada as part of a 15-man squad. Shoaib is a true cricket icon, according to Rana Bhagwandas, a Pakistani judge. After the 2011 World Cup, Shoaib Akhtar announced his retirement from cricket.

 

Family

 

Shoaib Akhtar was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, in the town of Morgah. His father, Mohammad Akhtar, who work as a watchman at the Attock oil refinery petrol station and was from a poor Punjabi family of the Gujjar tribe, married his mother, Hameeda Awan when she was still an adolescent. The couple had five children: four sons, Shoaib fourth after Obaid, Tahir, and Shahid, and a daughter named Shumaila. On June 25, 2014, Shoaib Akhtar married Rubab Khan.

Cricket Career

 

Initial Career

Shoaib joined Pakistan\’s national team after three years of consistent performance in domestic cricket. He joined the team as a speedy bowler who would rush in and bowl as rapidly as possible. From the start of his career, his speed and ferocity were the keys to his success.

 

Domestic Career

Shoaib played cricket for several different teams worldwide, including Asia XI, ICC World XI, Rawalpindi, Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan, PIA XI, Kolkata Knight Riders, Surrey, Summerset, Durham, Worcestershire, Chittagong Division, and many others. From 1994 through 2009, he appeared in 133 first-class matches. With two ten-wicket hauls and 28 fifers, he took 467 wickets at an average of 26.26.

He also played in 221 List-A matches, taking 338 wickets at a 25.21 average. He also has seven five-wicket hauls to his name. Shoaib collected 44 wickets in 38 T20s, including a five-wicket haul.

 

Club Career

Somerset in 2001, Durham in 2003 and 2004, and Worcestershire in 2005 are the three English county cricket clubs for whom Akhtar has played. Despite a few strong innings for each of the three clubs, he was heavily chastise for not giving his all to the squad. In the Indian Premier League, he was a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

 

Records

Akhtar has two ten-wicket hauls to his name, both of which occurred in 2003. These came in games against Bangladesh at home and New Zealand on the road. He has won the man of the match award twice and 10 times in limited-overs cricket in test cricket. He is also the only bowler to cross the 100mph mark twice during his career. Many cricket pundits believe that statistics and records don\’t do justice to the illustrious career that Shoaib Akhtar had.

 

Controversies

Shoaib was injured a lot and was controversial throughout his cricket career. In 2006-07, he was suspend for 13 games due to drug use. After a quarrel with then-captain Waqar Younus at the end of the World Cup in 2003, Akhtar was kick out. In August 2007, he was fined Rs. 300,000, and in 2008, he was ban from playing cricket for five years for violating the player\’s code of conduct; however, the court lifted the suspension after some time.

 

Retirement

Controversially Akhtar\’s autobiography was release in September 2011. He has been on several Indian and Pakistani television shows—game On Hai, Geo Khelo Pakistan, Mazaak Mazaak hai, and Comedy Nights with Kapil.
