This month, Tokyo 2020 – now 2021 – officially starts, with five more sports added to the mix. Surfing, skateboarding, sport climbing, and karate will all introduced this year and baseball, which will make its first appearance since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Olympics are one of the most prestigious and largest sporting events in the world, and they are held every four years. The Olympics, on the other hand, seem to be evolving. Due to the declining popularity of different sports, many games that were once part of this prestigious event are no longer available. Some of the weirdest olympic sports games were once a part but have been phased out over time.

Tug Of War

Especially if you consider that tug-of-war use to be a popular event, the Olympics can sound like a giant international picnic at times. At the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, it made its debut and remained on the events list until 1920.

Team members had to pull their opponents six feet or make the most progress within five minutes to win. Most British police officers were on the team, which won two gold medals and one silver medal during the competition. Each team consisted of eight players, and the team that pull its opponents the furthest was declared the victorious side. In 1908, this sport was the subject of controversy. If a competitor misses two shots, they are eliminate from contention. Nearly 300 birds were kill in a single incident. After protests from animal rights activists, the subsequent games used clay pigeons in place of live ones.

Obstacle Swim

Swimming was another Olympic highlight in 1900. The obstacle swim was a unique feature of the 1900 Paris Games. The competition, which took place in the Seine River, required competitors to climb over poles and boats before swimming beneath other boats across a 200-meter course. Frederick Lane of Australia won by less than two seconds over Austrian Otto Wahle. This is one event that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) might consider bringing back, despite being later cancelled. Obstacle swim is one of the weirdest olympic sports.

Rope Climb

1896 was the first year that the rope climb was include in the Olympic program. On a 14-meter-long rope, climbers were judge on their time and style. The Los Angeles Summer Games of 1932 were the last time Rope Climb was play as part of an Olympic event.
