Brazil Legendary Footballer Pele Dies Aged 82

The great Brazilian football player Pele passed away on Thursday at 82, according to one of his daughters, Kely Nascimento.

The data revealed that the football icon, who became one of the greatest and most well-known athletes in modern history, had recently been in and out of the hospital following the discovery of a colon tumor.

In September 2021, Pele underwent surgery at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo to remove the tumor from his colon. His daughter routinely published updates about her father’s health from the hospital on social media.

She captioned a picture of what looked to be Pele’s family’s hand on his body that she tweeted on Thursday with the phrase, “Everything we are is thanks to you. You have our undying love. Peace be with you. Later, the hospital added that Pele had died due to colon cancer’s failure of numerous organs.

The only player to win the World Cup three times, in 1958, 1962, and 1970, Pele—real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento—held the record for 1,281 goals. The football star also received the FIFA Player of the Century award in 2000.

Meanwhile, Pele’s Twitter handle also announced his passing with a Tweet that read, “Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pele, who peacefully passed away today.” adding, “Love, love and love, forever.”
