Chicken Meat Prices in Pakistan: A kilogramme of chicken flesh now costs between Rs. 700 and Rs. 705, an all-time high for the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Additionally, poultry farmers say that more than half of their farms have been forced to close due to a lack of feed, creating a serious chicken crisis and driving up costs.
Public outcry over this has been significant, and people are now pleading with the government to act quickly to stop the rise in chicken prices. Farmers are concerned that chicken production may soon halt if the feed situation continues, driving up expenses even further.

The primary reason for the feed issue is the government’s refusal to import genetically modified soybeans, a crucial component of chicken feed, which led to the closure of broiler feed mills. Wholesalers worry that soon chicken meat prices could reach Rs. 1,000 per kilogramme if the authorities do not act immediately.
A local news website poll found that chicken meat is more expensive in Rawalpindi and Islamabad than in other towns, with costs in Lahore reaching Rs. 575 per kilogramme and Rs. 580 in Gujranwala.
In addition, poultry farmers lament that a lack of feed makes it difficult to meet the demand for eggs over the winter, increasing egg costs and raising concerns about a future supply shortage.
