Mine blast in northern Turkey kills 28 with scores still trapped

At least 28 workers were killed, and more than a dozen were trapped inside a state-owned mine in Amasra town. The Mine blast in northern Turkey explosion, reportedly the worst in recent memory, appeared to have been cause by gas ignition.

According to the Turkish disaster management agency, rescue workers arrived at the mine area quickly after the tragedy. According to the first reports, the inquiry is still ongoing. Therefore there is no confirmed cause for the explosion.

The Turkish Health Minister provided an update on the situation, stating that 11 other people who had been save were being treat in hospitals after one of the bloodiest industrial catastrophes in recent memory occurred on Friday at dusk. He claimed that when the disaster happened, more than 100 individuals were working underground.

 

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated that he would travel to the disaster site today, Saturday, after postponing all other plans in response to the nation\’s horror over the explosion.
