Lata Mangeshkar dies after month-long battle with Covid-19

Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary Indian vocalist, died on Sunday at 92 after post-Covid complications.

According to reports in Indian media, the \’Nightingale of India\’ died of multi-organ failure after a month in the hospital.

In the first week of January, the old singer was hospitalize in a private intensive care unit. She was also diagnose with pneumonia and remained in severe condition during her stay in the hospital. Lata was put back on a ventilator after her health deteriorated, according to the Indian physician who has caring for her.

The Indian government has proclaimed two days of national mourning, with a public broadcaster saying that the country\’s flag will be flown at half-staff and that a state burial will be held for the singing legend.

The world has mourned Mangeshkar\’s death, and celebrities, politicians, and social activists have expressed their condolences. Following Lata\’s death, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others flocked to social media and tweeted.
Lata Mangeshkar was born in September 1929 and learned music from her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, a Marathi musician. She collaborated with music legends from several decades, delivering timeless hits still relevant today.
In 1943, for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau, the \’Queen of Melody\’ recorded her debut Hindi song, Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De. She later collaborated with renowned musicians such as Anil Biswas, Shankar Jaikishan, Naushad Ali, and SD Burman.

\”Tujhe Dekha Toh Ye Jana Sanam,\” says the song. Some of Lata Mangeshkar\’s most enduring songs are \”Gori Hai Kalaiyan,\” \”Lag Jaa Gale,\” \”Sawan Ka Mahina,\” \”Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya,\” and \”Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon.\”
Despite living in the public eye for eight decades, she remained single throughout her life, despite rumours of extramarital affairs.

India\’s highest civilian distinction was bestowe on the great vocalist. In 2007, France bestowed the highest civilian honour, the Officer of the Legion of Honour.
