Victims of October 8 earthquake remembered on 17th anniversary

On Saturday (today), the nation commemorated the victims of the October 8 earthquake Muzaffarabad. Over 87,000 people were murdere, making it the deadliest earthquake tragedy in the nation\’s history, in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Islamabad will host a prayer event to honour those who lost their lives in the 2005 earthquake. During the ceremony, participants will observe a moment of silence.

People from all walks of life, including social and political activists, attorneys, journalists, and business fraternity members, will attend the special events, including awareness walks, seminars, and symposiums across the Valley.

The main event will occur at Mirpur, and after sirens have sounded and two minutes of silence have been observed in memory of the victims, fateha Khawani will be offer for the martyrs.

The catastrophe:

The catastrophic earthquake of October 8 claimed more than 70000 lives and left thousands of people injured. Most Muzaffarabad and Bagh were devastate, while some of Islamabad\’s Margalla Towers were also damaged.

The report states that this 7.6 magnitude earthquake took place 15 kilometres beneath the surface. Ninety-five percent of Balakot\’s infrastructure was devastate by the terrible earthquake, which also impacted thousands of residents in Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Hazara, and Rawalakot.

The earthquake that struck Muzaffarabad on October 8 also caused over 0.5 million people to be homeless. Muzaffarabad was the most severely impacte district, and buildings included homes, offices, schools, hotels, hospitals, markets, and plazas.
