More than a dozen hotels in Punjab\’s resort town of Murree have been closed by the government for overcharging tourists after a devastating snowstorm last week.
The deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi confirmed the news on Twitter

After social media users aired their fury for overcharging and other violations, the Assistant Commissioner of Murree blocked hotels on Kuldana Road, Upper Jhika Gali Road, Bank Road, and Abu Dhabi Road.
On Saturday, at least 23 people died of cold and asphyxiation at the country\’s most popular tourist destination.
Some of the victims perished from frostbite in their vehicles. While others died of asphyxiation from breathing exhaust fumes after their vehicles became trapped in the snow.
Several videos of visitors trapped in Murree have circulated on social media, with many complaining about hoteliers overcharging them.
Meanwhile, after being strand in Murree due to severe snowfall, police detained a man for defrauding visitors.
