Inauguration and Capacity
On October 6, 2014, the Grand Bahria Mosque was opened in honour of Eid-al-Adha. It has an indoor capacity of 25,000 worshipers. The total number of worshipers can rise to 70,000, including the courtyard and corridor leading to the main prayer venues.The third-largest mosque in Pakistan was opened by former president Asif Ali Zardari, Malik Riaz, and Manzoor Wattu.
Architecture
The design of the mosques is a clear example of how the stunning Badshahi Masjid, Wazir Khan Mosque, and to a lesser extent, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque served as an influence. Renowned architect Nayyar Ali Dada built the Grand Mosque in Lahore. For his meritorious contributions, he was given the Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Imtiaz awards.
Four 165-foot-tall minarets make up the mosque. A large dome is built, and twenty smaller domes surround it. In comparison, the mosque\’s foundation is 50 feet in diameter and 20 feet above the ground. The mosque\’s facade is covered in 4 million handcrafted Multani tiles.
Design & Decor
Six wooden doors in the shape of arches and more than 50 white Persian chandeliers add to the grandeur of the stunning mosque. The mosque\’s custom-made imported carpets come from the neighbouring nation of Turkey. Mosque\’s minarets are octagonal in design, which gives them a regal appearance.
The mosque\’s courtyard features exquisite landscaping in the \”Charbagh\” style. The patio also includes a fountain. The courtyard garden is surrounded on all four sides by passageways that are built with columns and in the shape of arches, giving the courtyard a regal elegance.
Islamic Academy & Museum
A museum and Islamic academy are also located inside the heavenly mosque. There is a cutting-edge academy in the Grand Jamiya Mosque in Lahore\’s basement. This Islamic academy provides both secular and religious instruction.
The rare Quranic collections are on show in the mosque\’s museum, which may be found on the first level of the building. Other things include a library and art gallery dedicated to Islam, both of which display several ancient artefacts.
