The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) identified 22 bottled water brands unsafe for human consumption.
The government has assigned PCRWR to monitor bottled, or mineral water brands quarterly and publicize the results for the best interest of public health.
In the last quarter, between April and June, 180 water mineral or bottle samples were collect from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan Sargodha, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan, Mianwali, and Karachi. Comparison of test results with the permissible limits of Pakistan Standards (PSQCA) has found that 22 marks are not safe for drinking.
Water Brand Unsafe
The presence of higher sodium levels of 60 to 165 mg/l than the PSQCA bottled water standard for sodium, 50 mg/l, proved unsafe for 15 brands, such as Pure,
- Blue Plus
- Aqua King
- Spring Fresh Life
- UF Pur Edge
- Puricana minerals
- Best Natural
- Al Barcah Water
Drops were found unsafe because of the presence of 629mg/L higher TDS than the PSQCA water quality standard of 500 mg/L for TDS. The company of 24 μg/L of arsenic with 10 μg/L of arsenic permitted under the PSQCA water quality standard was insecure by one brand named Pure Nature. The presence of 11 mg/L potassium vs 10 mg/L permissible under the PSQCA water quality standard for potassium also found Pure uncertain.
Six brands were found microbiologically contaminated and were declared ‘unsafe’ for drinking:
- Alkaline Water
- McWay Water
- Aqua Best
