Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight services to Europe remain suspended. Turkish Airline has offered its services to transport Pakistani fruit and vegetable exports to other countries.

Recently, the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) imposed a six-month ban on PIA’s flight operations to Europe. After reports appeared that around 262 PIA pilots held suspicious flying licenses.

All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) Patron-in-Chief Waheed Ahmed said

Turkish Airlines will charge lower freight charges for the transport of Pakistani fruits and vegetables to England, Germany, and other western countries. However, It has confirmed that it will facilitate the promotion of Pakistani fruit and vegetable exports.

Among other things, the ban caused problems in the export of Pakistani fruit and vegetables. In this regard, the Pakistani Embassy in Istanbul met with trade advisor Bilal Khan Pasha. The President of Turkish Airlines, Ilker Ayci. Who assured that Turkish Airlines would resume air operations in Pakistan and exports of fruits and vegetables to the European Union (EU). will help).

Also, a delegation of exporters led by Waheed Ahmed, head of the Association of Pakistani Exporters. However, Importers, and Traders of Fruit and Vegetables (PFVA), met Gurhan Sozen, General Manager of Turkish Airlines (GM).

According to Waheed Ahmed, the PIA has recently cut shipping costs to reduce the cost of export shipments. However, after PIA’s six-month ban, exporters will have to resort to foreign carriers\’ services, which could lead to higher freight costs.

Exporters further said that Pakistan’s economy is under immense pressure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In which can be mitigat by enhancing its exports. They assured exporters that they are keen to export fruits and vegetables through Turkish Airlines on a long term basis.

The Turkish Airlines GM assur the exporters that freight charges will be reduced. And that the airline will provide excellent ground handling facilities for export shipments.

He also requested the PFVA to provide details of export volume. So, the space requir for each export shipment can estimated and plan accordingly.
